Alex is... bloated

the text above is a person's most recent opinion of me. this comes from my former main page for my site. the site entirely consisted of is "Alex Stillwell is..." and a text field. The text field was editable by whoever and whenever anyone would like. I emphasised complete anonimity to get some truly interesting results. Some of my favorites were, "vain," "a filthy liar," "the chupacabra," "charming as can be," "persistant," "creative." Although it's not my homepage anymore, you can still see and edit it by clicking on whatever was said about me in orange.

Geographic determinants of property value in portland GIS

A class project from a graduate level GIS class at Portland State. We were trying to find what factors are responsible for the changing prices in Portland and we came upon some interesting stats, such as the gentrification of the city.

Keep Salt Lake Awkward KSLA (super alpha)

This project is slated to launch by the beginning of the year. Similar to the "Keep Austin Weird" campaign, the premise of the idea is to build a sense of comradarie in Salt Lake City's alternative, unique (read: not weird, but awkward) culture. SLC does have this culture, but its disjointed and not united. The goal of KSLA is to provide an online source and tools to bring awareness to the city's creative culture. When launched, there will be innovative places for the community to come out and be prideful of their home. Features include the "creatives" of the city, a list of "Made in Salt Lake" similar to the Internet Made of NYC, and a compelling public confessional. This won't be a city guide, but something much more.

Napping in Extreme Places Nap time

A old, but fun project. It's based on the ridiculous of people taking picture of themselves while napping in extreme places (hence the name). It was started before the similar, but obviously more popular, acts of planking and owling gained meme status.

Yarned Yarned

2000 feet of yarn. 300 nails. 24 feet of lattuce. 7 hours. 1 wall. I moved into a new place with tall ceilings and a massive white blank wall. It presented me an opportunity to do something interesting and unique. This is the result. And this is a timelapse of me constructing it.
A few years back, I had the idea of taking a photo of myself for 140 days. Realizing how vain that was, that then morphed into taking a of whatever I was doing at 904pm. I did that for a while but gave up. After a haitus, 904pm is back in the form of 8:36pm, which is a time that a few people across the internets are doing the same thing. You can find my old photos (including the pictures of myself) by going to the tumblr or the current photos by clicking the flickr link. Eventually, I'll just feed the most recent picture onto this page.
Sometimes I like to take pictures. Sometimes they turn out alright. Here are some of the ones I'm more proud of.
